Discovering the Casa Meza Distillery

The journey to finding the perfect distillery wasn’t about flash or scale; it was about soul. When Tom and Troy, owners of three bars (Borracho Cantina, Borracho Saloon, and Borracho Tequila), stepped into a small, underwhelming facility tucked in the heart of Jalisco, they weren’t expecting much. The space was quiet, humble. They patiently waited for the owner, Francisco, known affectionately in the region as Wassa, to arrive.

In the meantime, it was Francisco’s daughter, Karla, who stepped up to greet them. With her father delayed, she graciously stalled, chatting warmly, pouring small tastings, and eventually offering to give the tour herself. With a calm pride and undeniable warmth, she shared the story of her family’s work, pointing out each detail with love and reverence. Her passion was contagious. Her deep love for her family’s craft radiated through every word, every story. You could feel the generations of dedication behind every wall, every barrel. The facility might have been small, but the heart in it was massive.

And then, Wassa arrived.

The moment he stepped in, the energy shifted. The room lit up with banter, laughter, and a natural, easy flow between Karla, Wassa, Tom, and Troy. In that exchange, those first jokes, those first shared smiles, something clicked. That genuine sense of family, of warmth and openness, was undeniable. It felt like the first real step of the journey.

As Tom looked around, something else hit him: signs – hand-painted and weathered, many of them bearing a single word: Borracho. Scattered across the walls like quiet omens. It felt like destiny.

That day, Tom and Troy didn’t just find a distillery; they found a second home. A family. And the soul of Borracho Tequila.

They were moved by the tradition, the authenticity, and the heart poured into every drop of tequila. It wasn’t just a product; it was a legacy.

When Wassa shared his vision and plans to grow the distillery into something much larger, Tom and Troy knew they had to be part of it. They believed in the craft, the people, and the future it held.

Our Master Distiller brings a wealth of experience, with 37 years of expertise honed in the renowned tequila region of Jalisco, Mexico. This deep-rooted knowledge and passion for tequila-making are infused into every bottle of Borracho, ensuring a product that speaks to the heart of tradition and excellence.

Sustainability and Growth

Borracho Tequila is devoted to fostering sustainability through its responsible agricultural practices. We cultivate approximately 3 million agave plants and diligently replant each one following harvest. Our commitment extends beyond agave; we rejuvenate our fields with corn or sugarcane to maintain a balanced ecosystem. This not only enhances the quality of our tequila but also honors our environmental responsibilities.

Quality and Distinctiveness

Our tequila-making process exemplifies our dedication to producing superior quality. We use an impressive 9-10 kilograms of agave plants in every batch, in contrast to many competitors who use only 4-5 kilograms. This substantial use of agave sets us apart, ensuring a rich and authentic flavor. Our new distillery stands as a beacon of innovation and respect for the environment, ensuring that the legacy of Borracho Tequila will continue to thrive for generations to come.
